About the Academy

The Kaeshi Ryu (Counter Action Style) Ju Jitsu Academy was established in the
early 1980's by the now 5th dan Sensei Melvin Austin. With his partner Sensei Jan
Tunstall (4th dan) the academy now has 4 dojos in Staffordshire.

The novice is taught how to breakfall, the basic stances and  blocks and strikes
before moving on to kicks, escape techniques and arm locks. Whilst respect and
discipline are paramount in the martial arts environment, classes are run in a
friendly and welcoming manner. Parents are welcome to sit and watch lessons,
some even stay on to train in the senior classes that follow.

Compared to many other oriental styles, Ju Jitsu is not as spectacular to the
casual observer. We do not pay too much attention to high flying kicks or feel the
need to demonstrate our strength with board breaking displays.

Our expertise is based on defence against real physical attack in the most direct,
effective and often simple ways.
